CHIKUNGUNYA: ‘HOMOEOPATHY HAS REMEDY’

Alternative medication has been working on patients gripped by the current strain of chikungunya-like virus. However, MEENAKSHI RAO talks to reputed homoeopath DR MOHAMMAD QASIM to find out how the treatment has to be completely customised to individual patients even though the symptoms are the same. Excerpts of the interview

Why is homoeopathy working and not allopathy?

This is because in allopathy only painkillers are being given. They may control the pain but the remnants of viruses remain in the absence of a healing medicine. Homoeopathy, on the other hand, looks for a diagnosis based on the body responses to the disease of every patient individually. Our medication identifies the virus and then prepares the body to tackle it. We heal clinically, hence we are more equipped to hit the virus. We prepare the human body to develop its own defence mechanism and then fight the virus. So we cure instead of merely containing.

But chikungunya is a modern-day disease from a mutated modern virus. Homoeopathy is an age-old strain of medicine. Where did you get the medicine for something as modern as chikungunya?

(Laughs). A very good question. Yes, homoeopathy is centuries old. But viruses have also existed for centuries, maybe not with the same name. In great detail our books tell you of a similar ailment (fever borne out of intense joint pain) way back in the ancient times. The medicine is working today. Homoeopathy, even if you may not know, is a strain of medicine that is keeping updated about evolving ailments. All our studies show that every disease existed in some form or the other all those eons back too. You may not know but we are also preparing medicines for the Zika virus and a lot of research has already been done in homoeopathy on this virus.

Why are deaths happening in chikungunya when it is not known to be fatal?

The disease as such is non-fatal. People are dying due to the aggravation of existing diseases in the body getting complicated by this virus. Diabetics, renal patients, old people and children with low immunity are at grave risk.

Do you think this is chikungunya?

The symptoms are the same or similar. But you must understand the virus mutates constantly and it is impossible to identify the mutation in a hurry. Research has already started in allopathy on the current strain. Homoeopathy is looking at similar symptoms in their books to co-relate this strain.

Do you think that it is not chikungunya and it is a travesty that people are being treated for chikungunya when they may be infected by something entirely different or mutated as you say?

All pathology reports as you may notice say “co-relate clinically.” This means that after you’ve identified the infection, as a doctor you need to clinically diagnose the extent, severity and response of a particular patient to the disease. Allopaths are doing that less and less and relying entirely on path reports. Homoeopaths treat all patients individually. You may notice that all patients are being put on paracep across the spectrum. We ask a lot of questions from our patients. Everyone has a different response to the virus. We treat those symptoms with different medication and it is working.

So the homoeopathy medicine names floating on twitter and whatsapp do not work en masse?

No they don’t. Because you may be having a different set of problems. Homoeopathy medicines like Eupatorium Perf and Osimum 200 are plant-based medicines used for bone fever. But not everyone requires the same drug. So you need to consult a homoeopath as your ailing body may require a different dosage.

Allopaths say if homoeopathy is able to give relief from pain, it has to be through steroids….

We don’t use steroids at all. Our medicines come from centuries old methods of medicine when steroids had not even been invented. This is an unverified charge that has been irresponsibly floated by pharma lobby-propelled allopaths for a long time. We know the pharma lobby is very strong globally. We also know that homoeopathy costs almost nothing to treat. Imagine what would happen to the pharma lobby if homeopathy were to be taken out of the “alternate medicine” fold. Your answer lies within this malign campaign.

When allopathic medicines don’t work, doctors go for steroids to give relief to the patient. So, they think we are also using the steroids. Most importantly, application of mind is necessary. Physical examination and listening to the patient carefully are must. Every person is different and customised attention is needed, which is only possible in homeopathy.
